2025 Horror Movies

1. Frankenstein

Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist, brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.

This movie deserved a wider theatrical release if you ask me. One of the most stunning movies I saw this yea, Guillermo Del Toro really put his all into displaying this world through his creative mind. Possibly the best cast in horror this year, the performances took me by surprise, with Jacob Elordi getting lost in his role as the monster. This is a tragic story that deserves all the praise it’s getting.

2. Weapons

When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.

Probably the most divisive horror film of the year. Some people hate it, some people love it. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it provided me with the best theater experience of the year. It’s surprisingly funny (especially the last 10 minutes or so), and it’s unique storytelling structure was an interesting way to unravel the mystery. Check out Weapons ASAP.

3. Sinners

Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

Sinners is going to be remembered as one of those turning points in the genre as time goes on. This is a cultural masterpiece that nails the music, the vampires, and the underlying social commentary. If you’re one of the people trying to claim this isn’t a horror movie, go kick rocks.

4. Bring Her Back

Following the death of their father, a brother and sister are sent to live with a foster mother, only to learn that she is hiding a terrifying secret.

Made by the same dudes who created Talk To Me, they aimed for the fences and hit a home run with Bring Her Back. This is one of the darkest, bleakest horror movies of the year, and that’s exactly why it landed as my FAVORITE horror movie of the year. There are some gruesome scenes, heartbreaking payoffs, and performances that surprised me. Great if you like disturbing folk horror.

5. The Ugly Stepsister

In a fairy-tale kingdom where beauty is a brutal business, Elvira battles to compete with her incredibly beautiful stepsister, and she will go to any length to catch the prince’s eye.

If someone told me a year ago that I’d have a retelling of Cinderella in my top 5 horror movies of the year list, I’d tell them they were nuts. But somehow that’s the case this year. The best body horror of the year. Feels like a dream, oozes with Victorian style and architecture. Wild that this is a directorial debut.

6. Companion

During a weekend getaway at a secluded lakeside estate, a group of friends finds themselves entangled in a web of secrets, deception, and advanced technology. As tensions rise and loyalties are tested, they uncover unsettling truths about themselves and the world around them.

A tech horror so good that even if you have a main plot point spoiled, it still rocks your socks off. Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid’s performances are addictive in this one. It’s hilarious, bloody, and one of the wildest rides we went on in horror last year.

7. Together

Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country, abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other. With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh.

Some of the best VFX of the year, the creators perfectly demonstrate the horrors of a codependent relationship through the melding of Dave Franco and Alison Brie’s bodies. If The Ugly Stepsister didn’t exist, this would be the best body horror film of the year.

8. The Long Walk

In a dystopian, alternate-America ruled by a totalitarian regime, fifty teenage boys take part in a deadly annual walking contest, forced to maintain a minimum pace or be executed, until only one survivor remains.

I hesitated even considering this a horror movie this year, but it seems that the general public considers it to be one. I read the book when I was younger and it stuck with me for years, so I was stoked when a movie was announced. It’s hard to make a movie interesting when it’s all about walkinb, but Frances Lawrence succeeded with this one.

9. Final Destination: Bloodlines

Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.

I was worried about them bringing the franchise back, especially since it’s been 14 years since the fifth entry. I was pleasantly surprised by this one, though. The kills are gnarly, they found a great way to keep the plot fresh, and the performances were impressive.

10. 28 Years Later

Twenty-eight years since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one member departs on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

One of the most anticipated horror movies of the year, 28 Years Later revived the 28 franchise, sparking a new trilogy that is continuing in 2026 with Bone Temple. I thought the movie lived up to its expectations nicely, though some were completely thrown off by its ending.

Where To Watch:

11. Clown In A Cornfield

Quinn and her father have just moved to the quiet town of Kettle Springs hoping for a fresh start. Instead, she discovers a fractured community that has fallen on hard times after the treasured Baypen Corn Syrup Factory burned down. As the locals bicker amongst themselves and tensions boil over, a sinister, grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to cleanse the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time.

This film has a worse reputation than it deserves if you ask me. This is a fun teen slasher that kept me entertained the entire time. It’s based off a book, so if you’re a reader you could check that out after viewing.

Where To Watch:

12. Wolf Man

With his marriage fraying, Blake persuades his wife Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit his remote childhood home in rural Oregon. As they arrive at the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. But as the night stretches on, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable.

Skipped this one.

Where To Watch:

13. Keeper

Liz and Malcolm escape for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin. When Malcolm suddenly returns to the city, Liz finds herself isolated and in the presence of an unspeakable evil that reveals the cabin’s horrifying secrets.

This movie had some of the weirdest visuals in a horror movie this year, with some parts legitimately creeping me out. I’m impressed by how quickly Oz Perkins is putting out these bangers.

Where To Watch:

14. Five Nights At Freddy’s 2

One year since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, the stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first ever Fazfest. With the truth about what transpired kept from her, Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, setting into motion a terrifying series of events that will reveal dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleash a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.

Another franchise that I’m not really into.

Where To Watch:

15. Fear Street: Prom Queen

Who will be voted queen at Shadyside High’s 1988 prom? For underdog Lori, competition is cutthroat even before someone starts killing off the candidates.

I’m not super familiar with this series, but I’m sure this entry will appeal to those who are actively following it. Teen slasher.

Where To Watch:

16. I Know What You Did Last Summer

When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge.

I personally didn’t see any value in remaking this movie. Let the franchise die, rather than infusing it with a nonsensical plot twist. Easy skip, but if you’re intrigued, check it out!

Where To Watch:

17. HIM

After suffering a potentially career-ending brain trauma, Cameron Cade receives a lifeline when his hero, legendary eight-time Championship quarterback and cultural megastar Isaiah White, offers to train Cam at Isaiah’s isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife. But as Cam’s training accelerates, Isaiah’s charisma begins to curdle into something darker.

A hugely divisive film for the year, this movie quickly grew a bad reputation, but it seems like as the year drug on a ton of viewers came to its defense. What did you think of this one?

Where To Watch:

18. Woman in the Yard

In the aftermath of her husband’s death, widow Ramona’s struggle to raise her two kids is hindered by the arrival of a mysterious woman with supernatural abilities.

The reputation this movie garnered kept me from watching it, and it appeared on many people’s worst of 2025 lists, so do with that what you will. The hard-hitting, emotional themes of the movie may still draw you in.

Where To Watch:

19. ASH

On the mysterious planet of Ash, Riya awakens to find her crew slaughtered. When a man named Brion arrives to rescue her, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues while Riya and Brion must decide if they can trust one another to survive.

This movie is a visual delight, but that’s where the appeal ended for me. It does star Aaron Paul, though which is a big draw for the movie. Directed by Flying Lotus, and great for fans of sci-fi horror movies like Event Horizon, The Thing, Sunshine, etc…

Where To Watch:

20. War of the Worlds

Will Radford is a top analyst for Homeland Security who tracks potential threats through a mass surveillance program, until one day an attack by an unknown entity leads him to question whether the government is hiding something from him… and from the rest of the world.

To be quite frank, I’m not sure why you’d want to watch this flick as it was rated lowest of the year, but by all means, you do you, boo.

2024 Horror Movies

1. The Substance

A fading Hollywood starlet (Demi Moore, absolutely crushing it) discovers a mysterious black-market drug that promises a younger, “better” version of herself. But the catch? That new self doesn’t want to share.

This is body horror meets Hollywood satire in the most deliciously grotesque way possible. It’s slick, feminist, feral, and oozing with style—and yeah, there are some real gnarly moments. It’s one of the boldest, weirdest horror films of the year, and you’re either gonna love it or squirm through it (or both). Streaming options just below!

Where To Watch:

2. Nosferatu

Robert Eggers finally dropped his long-awaited Nosferatu remake, and whew—this thing is gothic horror poetry. It follows a young woman stalked by a terrifying vampire in 19th-century Germany, and the vibes are as dark as the shadows he slinks through.

Atmospheric, brooding, and absolutely gorgeous to look at, this is a slow-burn masterpiece that leans hard into old-school horror with a modern bite. If you liked The Witch or The Lighthouse, you’re probably already obsessed. Stream below.

Where To Watch:

3. Strange Darling

A woman flees a serial killer in the woods—but that’s only half the story. Told out of order, this ultra-stylized thriller keeps flipping the script until you’re left wondering who the real monster is.

This is one of those small, twisty films that rewards attention. It’s brutal, clever, and gorgeously shot—like If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late but for horror thrillers. You’re gonna want to go in as blind as possible, so no spoilers here. Just trust me: it’s worth it. Check the widget below for where to stream.

Where To Watch:

4. Heretic

Two young missionaries knock on the wrong door and end up in a nightmare scenario hosted by a manipulative—and possibly supernatural—older man. Think Misery meets The Invitation with a religious horror twist.

This one’s a slow-burn with an undercurrent of dread that builds until it explodes. There are moments where you’re not sure if you’re watching a thriller or straight-up psychological horror, and that ambiguity works so well. Keep an eye on this one—it’s not flashy, but it’s sharp. Streaming details below.

Where To Watch:

5. Late Night With The Devil

A 1970s late-night talk show broadcasts live during a Halloween special—only for things to unravel hard when the host welcomes a young girl believed to be possessed. What unfolds is a descent into on-air chaos.

This is found footage meets retro broadcast horror and it’s absolutely electrifying. It’s got charm, style, and some legit “oh no what are we watching” moments. David Dastmalchian kills it as the host, and the finale? Unhinged in the best way. One of my favorites of 2024. Stream below.

Where To Watch:

6. Exhuma

Two shamans, a funeral director, and a wealthy family uncover something ancient and terrifying beneath a grave that should’ve stayed untouched. What begins as a traditional exhumation spirals into full-blown supernatural horror.

This Korean horror gem is eerie, methodical, and steeped in ritualistic dread. It’s beautifully shot, anchored by strong performances, and loaded with spiritual horror that’ll make your skin crawl. If you like horror that respects its mythology while still going hard with the scares? Exhuma delivers. Check the widget below to watch.

Where To Watch:

7. Smile 2

The sinister, trauma-devouring entity from the first Smile returns—this time targeting a rising pop star after she witnesses a horrifying event backstage. The curse lives on… and so do the creepiest smiles in horror.

Is it as strong as the first? Debatable. Is it still packed with unnerving visuals, existential dread, and skin-crawling atmosphere? Oh yeah. If you liked the original’s mix of jump scares and slow psychological breakdown, Smile 2 keeps the vibes going. Streaming info below.

Where To Watch:

8. Abigail

A group of criminals kidnaps a little girl, hoping for a big payday. That’s all I’m saying so I don’t spoil it.

This one is a blast. It’s got dark comedy, buckets of blood, and a killer performance from Alisha Weir that immediately puts her on the scream queen map. Think Ready or Not meets From Dusk Till Dawn with fangs and flair. Go in blind, watch with friends, and enjoy the carnage. Widget below for your viewing pleasure.

Where To Watch:

9. Longlegs

An FBI agent gets wrapped up in a serial killer case that veers way off the rails into occult territory. As she digs deeper, she discovers the killer might be part of something much darker than just murder.

This is slow-burn dread incarnate. Think Se7en meets Hereditary with Nicolas Cage delivering one of the most chilling performances of his career. The vibes are off in the best way possible. If you like horror that crawls under your skin and stays there, this one is for you. Streaming info just below.

Where To Watch:

10. The First Omen

Set before the events of The Omen, this prequel follows a young American woman sent to Rome to work at a church-run orphanage. What she uncovers there sets the stage for the rise of the Antichrist.

This one shocked me with how good it was. The cinematography is stunning, the tone is grim, and the horror moments are genuinely disturbing. Even if you haven’t seen the original Omen, this stands on its own. If you’re into religious horror with bite (and a couple scenes that will haunt your soul), this one’s a must. Widget below if you’re feeling brave.

Where To Watch:

11. Terrifier 3

Art the Clown is back for round three, this time painting the town red during Christmas. And by “painting,” I mean butchering.

This one’s for the gorehounds. It’s mean, nasty, and as unapologetically brutal as you’d expect. Personally? I think Terrifier 2 still reigns supreme, especially when it comes to story and emotional payoff. But Terrifier 3 is still a worthy installment and a bloody gift to the horror community—it made serious box office noise and solidified Art’s horror icon status. If you’ve got the stomach, the widget below will guide you into the carnage.

Where To Watch:

12. A Quiet Place Day One

Ever wonder what those terrifying sound-sensitive aliens showing up looked like in real time? This prequel drops us into the chaos of Day One, through the eyes of a new lead character trying to survive as the world goes silent—or else.

It brings a new perspective to the Quiet Place universe, expanding the scope without losing the tension. There’s more emotion, a deeper look at humanity under pressure, and some truly effective scare sequences. If you’re already a fan of the franchise, this is a no-brainer. Check out where it’s streaming below.

Where To Watch:

13. Lisa Frankenstein

A goth teen in the ’80s reanimates a Victorian-era corpse, gives him a makeover, and starts falling in love with him. Yes, this movie is exactly as unhinged and delightful as that sounds.

From Diablo Cody, this is horror-comedy with heavy Edward Scissorhands meets Warm Bodies energy. It’s quirky, colorful, and full of heart—and while it won’t be for everyone, it’s got cult classic written all over it. If you want horror with eyeliner, neon, and a surprising amount of charm, Lisa’s your girl. Streaming widget’s got the goods below.

Where To Watch:

14. Trap

A father and daughter attend a pop concert… only to realize it’s actually a massive police sting.

M. Night Shyamalan came back swinging with this one. It’s tense, weird, and leans more thriller than horror—but the setup is so deliciously dark, it earns its spot on the horror-adjacent list. The dread builds in a slow, methodical way, and the payoff is satisfying in that “oh no he didn’t” kind of way. Widget below for streaming options.

Where To Watch:

15. Sting

A girl discovers a spider. The spider gets bigger. Then things get… messy. Like really messy.

Sting brings back that good ol’ creature feature energy, and it goes off. It’s got great practical effects, that nostalgic Arachnophobia-style suspense, and just enough heart to balance out the bite. If you’re even slightly creeped out by spiders, this’ll be your new nightmare fuel. Check streaming options below.

Where To Watch:

movie poster for 2024 horror movie tarot

16. Tarot

A group of friends uses a mysterious deck of tarot cards they definitely shouldn’t be messing with, and surprise—each card predicts a gruesome death that starts playing out in real life.

Is it reinventing the wheel? Not really. But if you’re in the mood for a fun, Final Destination-style body count with creative kills and a glossy YA horror vibe, Tarot scratches that itch. Great for a group watch, especially if you like your horror light on lore but heavy on aesthetic. Check the widget below to watch.

Where To Watch:

17. Night Swim

A suburban family moves into a new house with a pool. That pool? It’s cursed. Of course it is. And now, something dark and watery is lurking beneath the surface.

Night Swim is one of those movies that takes a silly premise and tries to make it serious—and honestly, it kinda works. The water-based horror is creepy, the sound design is solid, and there’s enough weirdness here to keep it interesting. Not a game-changer, but a decent watch when you’re in the mood for something a little more supernatural. Check the widget below before you dive in.

Where To Watch:

18. The Strangers Chapter One

A young couple on a road trip ends up stranded at a rental cabin in the woods… and then the masked strangers show up. You know the drill. Or do you?

This is a reboot/reimagining that’s supposed to kick off a new Strangers trilogy, and it leans hard into the slow-burn home invasion vibes. It’s moody, methodical, and has some genuinely tense moments. It doesn’t quite top the original, but it sets the stage for what could be a really creepy new arc. Honestly, not really worth checking out (lol), but if you want to, it’s streaming in these places ⬇️
